The proposed project is called The Lake Andes Wind Facility.
The project will be located along the Missouri River, in southwestern Charles Mix County, near Lake Andes, South Dakota. The project anticipates using approximately 25 large wind turbines. When completed, the facility will have a 200 mega watt capacity and will be situated on approximately 10,000 acres of private land, with about 1700 acres owned by the Yankton Sioux Indian Tribe. It is located about two miles northwest of the Fort Randall Dam power substation.
The project will be in the Lake Andes Municipality of Charles Mix County, in White Swan Township. The range is 65-66 W. The project would interconnect to the 230 kV line that has the Lake Platte/Fort Thompson Substation at its northern end and the Fort Randal Dam substation at its southern end. There is surplus capacity at the substation to accept the power.
The Lake Andes Wind Facility will help integrate wind with hydropower, something Hatch has a history of doing. A preliminary interconnection plan along with a single line diagram has been completed.
The continuing wind studies via three met towers confirm the wind parameters and anticipated power generation over the 72 month period of data collection. The data from the wind study was the basis for the financial model thereby providing extremely accurate energy projections.
